Supper Time |
Friday, December 5 was a long day for all of us. We were expecting four puppies but the first born -- Axle – was a BIG boy weighing in at 9.5 ounces. Zoe worked all night and he was born at 8:50 AM the next morning. Two of the pictures show Zoe in her whelping box just waiting and waiting. Beau the second little boy was born two hours later at 10:50 AM and he weighted 9.0 ounces – two big boys.
We call them the “bruiser boys”
I told Zoe that I would like two little girls for the last two puppies if she didn’t mind. Little Clare was born an hour later and she is such a dainty little girl – 7.5 ounces. Dixie was born about 30 minutes later and weighed 5.5 ounces but something was wrong. She was born with some of her intestines outside her body. After a quick trip to the vet, we decided that the best thing would be to put her to sleep since her prognosis was not good. The remaining puppies are doing well and gaining every day.
They eat and sleep as all puppies do and keep Zoe busy feeding and cleaning them. She’s a good Mom – quiet and determined to keep those babies clean and fed. It will be so much fun to watch these little puppies grow and gain. At about 10 days, their eyes will start to open and in about two weeks, they’ll begin to show the pepper spots on their noses.
