Where have Zoe’s babies gone?

Axel – has gone to live with Dee and Scot in San Jacinto, CA.  He is enjoying his life with his new best bud Ivan the cat.  Well probably not his “best” bud because Ivan tolerates him, but they have a peaceful co-existence.  Axel goes to work with Dee but probably his favorite activity is riding around the reservation with Scot in the golf cart.  He also likes to ride in Scot’s lap when Scot is cruising around in his wheelchair.  Axel has really fulfilled his role as “the comforter spaniel” this past year for Dee.

Beau – Beau (now called Basil) is living in Kansas City with Cori and Charles Haris.  A lot has gone on for Basil this last year.  Cori and Charles got married and now Basil has welcomed another human into his life – baby Clark.  Clark arrived very early and had to spend a lot of time in the hospital, but now Cori, Charles, Clark and Basil are enjoying being a family.  Basil is the second one of our Cavalier puppies that Cori has gotten from us.  Her first Cavalier from us was Fiona.  (It was so much fun to introduce ourselves as “Basil’s first Mom and Dad” at Cori and Charles wedding” when everyone asked who we knew at the wedding.)  Of course, we knew Cori and Charles, but it was fun to answer “Basil”.

Claire – Claire (now Remy) is living in Wichita with Kortney and Bryan Kittle.  She got to come and stay with use several weeks ago when Kortney and Bryan went to Cancun on a business trip.  Remy really had a good time here with the other dogs and LOVED playing with the puppies.  She also got to sleep on our bed the first night because the Old Guy thought she was lonely and missing Kortney and Bryan.  What a softie!  I would never have guessed

Update:  Lilly’s two girls have a bright and happy future with their new humans.  Clementine (Claire) is going to live with Darlene Young and her adopted sister Audrey with the hopes of a career in the dog show world.  Emmaline(now Wallis) is going to live with Jerry Huddleston.  (Pictures attached.)

Lily's Family

Our sweet Lilly girl was pregnant with five babies and after a long labor she was able to present us with 3 girls and 2 boys.  Unfortunately, the babies were very small and we lost three in the first week – two little boys and one girl - in spite of round-the-clock tube feedings.  Thinking that all was well, I began to relax with the two remaining puppies but Lilly was bleeding more than usual.  One morning she was unable to walk.  We rushed her to vet and discovered that she was   severely anemic.  She received a transfusion from Camper and really perked up in the afternoon and we took her back home.  The bleeding didn’t stop.  The next day we made the difficult decision to have her spayed as it seemed to be the only way to stop the bleeding.  At this point, I had a very sick Lilly in addition to some very hungry puppies on my hands.  I called my friend and Cavalier breeder here in Wichita, Darlene Young.  She had a litter of one little girl whose Mom readily accepted the hungry little babies.  The babies stayed with their adopted Mom Glory and her daughter Audrey until they were weaned and could come back home.

Now for the rest of the story…the babies, Clementine and Emmaline, will go to their new homes next week.  I will miss them so much particularly since I didn’t have them for as long as I usually do but they are both staying here in Wichita.  They are doing very well (Thank you Glory!) and are enjoying our big snowfall yesterday.  Lilly has recovered fully except for having a continual bad hair day due to the surgery.  She has gained all the weight back and is her normal sweet self.   She continues to spend the night in her special place next to our bed and I suspect that neither of us will want her to give that up any time soon.

I am planning to breed our tri girl Velvet when she comes in season so there are puppies in our future!  Keep checking the website for updates!  Thank you to everyone for your care and concern for Lilly and the babies – a happy ending!
